Education Sunday in Bishops
Wood
On Sunday 31st January we celebrated Education
Sunday in St John's Church, our theme reflecting on teaching as a vocation and
the path we take through life. The children from St John's First School took
part in the service, and every child in school and the Nursery made leaves and
footprints, to make our tree, the roots of which named all those who worked at
school to help educate the children.

On 3rd October, 94 of us enjoyed a meal of sausage and mash followed by a
selection of sweets. Then we were entertained with a variety of games and a
performance of folk songs by the vicar. Congratulations to all who organised and
cooked for this event, it was much appreciated.
Chillington Walk

On Thursday 10 September, about a dozen of us set off for a
walk around the grounds of Chillington Hall, courtesy of John Giffard.
As a newcomer to Brewood, this was my first view of this
huge and stunning estate. The weather was warm and sunny and we were admirably
led by Peter Bache, a personal friend of John Giffard .
The tour was brought alive by Peter, who is a regular
visitor to the estate in his capacity as a bird-ringer. This occupation was
new to me, and we were all enthralled by Peters' knowledge of the history of
Chillington, as well as his vast knowledge of the abundant bird and wild life
all around us.
We encountered early 19th century temples, bridges built by
Capability Brown and a whole range of wild life, especially around the lake.
The only thing missing was a cream tea in Chillington Hall!!
For all of us it was a brilliant outing and a huge vote of
thanks both to John Giffard and Peter Bache.
If you ever get the opportunity to visit the estate, grab
it, you will not be disappointed!

Holy Week in Brewood and Bishops Wood
This most important
time of the church year was marked in our villages in a number of exciting ways
|

|
On Palm Sunday,
our donkey Jacko led a large procession, with musicians, from the Three
Stirrups car park, down Stafford Street to the Palm Sunday service at St
Mary & St Chad. Greenery was waved and loud hosannas shouted, quite
uninhibitedly!
Thanks to John
and Maureen Groves for bringing Jacko - he was perfectly behaved almost
right through the service!

Good Friday
dawned clear and dry, and nearly 120 from all our churches met in the Market
Place in Brewood for Hot Cross Buns and great coffee, kindly provided by The
Mess.
Thus fortified,
and led by our Cross-bearer, we processed solemnly on a route which took in
the three churches and the Orchard estate, singing Good Friday hymns and
pausing at each place for readings and prayers
Many onlookers
and residents supported us, and were told of the Good Friday message, and
were given Hot Cross buns in one or two cases!

On Easter Day,
services were held in all our churches to celebrate Jesus’ rising alive from
His tomb
The wooden cross
which had been placed in Brewood Market Place was then decorated lavishly
with flowers; thanks to Chris at Village Flowers for her help and generosity
