Youth Work in the Parishes of Brewood and Bishops WoodThe Last 5years. What an exciting journey the last five years have been. Why? Well we have seen the expansion of Youth provision in our parishes, and working with Youth to build their experience of God is always rewarding, hard work but FUN. So What Do We Provide? GODROCK Club, this is on Friday lunchtimes at the Brewood Middle School and is now in it’s third year. It is a flexible drop-in club, mainly attended by youngsters with little experience of church. We spend an hour providing music (usually loud ) , discussion, bible passages, worksheets, drama, crafts and conclude with prayers. IO, standing for Inside Out, is the Youth club that began two years ago for our 11-16yr olds from church, meeting fortnightly during term time. We aim to provide them with a more relevant approach to faith, seeking to address some of the problems and questions that teenagers have today. This is mixed with music, of course, chat, pool, football, games and craft activities. J.E.S.U.S. Club started in September 2007, as a taster session for the pupils in the First school in Brewood, hoping that they might continue their journey with Jesus when they join the Middle school. A small group have regularly attended and we hope to build on this promising start. HOPE08, has given us a community focus this year, and our youth have been encouraged to join in by praying for the needs of others. They have been asked to make Friday their AOK day and make regular Acts of Kindness. In the Autumn we plan to take part in the Fields of Hope bulb planting. Schools. Assemblies have extended to include all the Ministry team who now deliver assemblies on a weekly basis to both First schools in our parishes. Church services to celebrate major festivals are also a regular feature for both schools. Middle school use the Vicar and the Youth Minister on a regular termly basis in school and for their bi-termly Church Services. Sunday Schools. Provision in Brewood is the traditional form of Sunday School, where the children are given insight into the bible through stories and drama. In the smaller parish at Bishops Wood there are Pew bags containing activities for young visitors. Where is Our Future? God knows……………….. but at present we are still stirring the melting pot that contains all our exciting ideas, and praying that He will guide us towards the right growth plans. Contacts if needed Revd.
